Collapsible vs. Standard Flute — Which Should You Choose?
I make two types of flutes: collapsible and standard (one-piece). Here's the honest difference.
Collapsible Flutes — The World's Most Compact Wind Instruments
My collapsible designs sound a lot better than most people would believe — and they are incredibly well tuned! Their best feature is the fact that they fit even the smallest of pockets and are a guaranteed attention-grabber for anyone witnessing them being opened.
Still — try as I might — I can never make the telescopic flutes sound quite as good as the one-piece models. This is a limitation of current manufacturing technology. These flutes alone are only possible to make thanks to recent advancements in 3D printing!
Standard Flutes — Superior Sound
One-piece flutes are naturally superior in sound quality. Their tonal richness is simply unmatched — the best I can achieve with the technology available today. If sound quality is your top priority, a standard flute is the way to go.
So Which One?
If you want the best possible sound and don't need portability — go standard. If you want something you can take anywhere and that doubles as an incredible conversation starter — go collapsible. Either way, you're getting a real, playable instrument.
